Sharon’s Half Iron Man

Chiropractor Sharon has been working at the Taunton and Chard Chiropractic Clinics for many years and she has a strong following of patients.

As well as being a busy Chiropractor, Sharon also runs local Pilates and pure stretch classes.  As if this wasn’t enough, in her (minimal!) spare time she is a keen runner, with Taunton Running Club, she often takes part in local events like the Taunton Half marathon.  More recently Sharon has started cycling, with some rides at the weekend of more than 100km, and swimming training!  Can you guess what she’s up to???

Swim, Cycle, Run….

Yes – that’s right, Sharon has signed up to a triathlon, but not just any triathlon – a HALF IRONMAN triathlon!!!  That is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run.  Now, while we (and her body!) may think she is a little crazy, she is doing it for a very good cause close to her heart.

Sharon’s Story

I became aware of pancreatic cancer in 1995 when my mum was diagnosed at the age of 53 years.  I knew nothing of the disease and learning that there was nothing that could be done left me feeling helpless and hopeless.  She died 6 weeks after diagnosis.  I am now 53 years old and cannot imagine how my mum must have felt when she was given this death sentence.  As treatment and survival rates have not improved in 40 years and pancreatic cancer, cancer research only receives 1.4% from Cancer Research funding, I have decided to specifically aim my fundraising to this much needed area of cancer research.

On 10th June 2018 my husband Matt and I will be participating in the Cotswolds 113 middle distance triathlon which involves a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride followed by a 13.1 mile run (half marathon).  Neither of us have ever taken on a challenge like this before but there is no doubt that we will be feeling proud when we cross the finish line.

Pancreatic cancer is the 5th cancer killer in the UK.  From diagnosis 80% of patients will die within 1 year.  Pancreatic cancer research projects need your support to help fund the breakthroughs this disease desperately needs which will transform diagnosis and treatments, and save lives.  Their aim is to double the UK survival rate over the next 5 years.
